Fevicryl shilpkar ideas – clay murals on canvas

Yesterday I tried to make some  shilpkar clay murals. This “Radha krishna” mural artwork is in  warli style.I had seen some wall hangings with murals in Khadi bhandar.I liked them.So thought of trying  them when I get time.As I had some shilpkar clay at home I tried this one  yesterday. As I didn’t have the wooden panel,I did it artwork on a 8″X10″ canvas panel.

Materials required :

  1. Canvas panel
  2. paint brush
  3. Fevicryl shilpkar clay
  4. Antique bronze and black acrylic colour
  5. tracing paper
  6. white carbon sheet

How to do:

1.Take a canvas (8″X10″).Paint it with black and bronze acrylic colour as shown.

2.Then trace the design with white carbon sheet.Just trace thin outlines. Then take out the clay.

Knead it very well on a hard flat surface till it becomes soft. Then take some clay and paste it using glue on the design as shown below. For legs, hands ,trees, birds make thin lines of clay and paste.

This is the final design I made.

3.Let the clay dry for a day. Then you can paint over it with a colour you like.

Here I used bronze and a little gold acrylic colour. Finally the clay mural looks like this.

    1. Hi Pradeepa,
I dont think shilpkar clay can be softened once it is dried. It says on the outer pack that we should use it within 90 mins once contents from both packs are mixed.Other air hardening clays like mont marte can be kept in the ziplock and stored in the refrigerator.
